Carrington
Originally named Zigenbines Pocket after the first hotelier Andrew Zigenbine who moved his Gympie Hotel from the Hodgkinson goldfield and renamed it the Carriers Arms Hotel. The area was also called Scrubby Creek after the local creek. Other hotels in 1884 were the McCann & Caseys, Scrubby Creek and Horseshoe.
In 1885 the town of Carrington was declared. The Packers Arms Hotel also known as the Valley was run by Thomas Ellis from 1888 to 1889. John Drury built the Carrington Hotel in 1901. Thomas Purcell built the Junction in 1891 at the Cairns pack track turn off.
